Five Years and Counting, GC Students Return to Rebuild New Orleans on Spring Break
Published: April 13, 2021
The 'city that care forgot' continues to be remembered by Greenville College students. When Hurricane Katrina hit the southern coast of the United States in August of 2005, the city of New Orleans was left in ruins. The town was destroyed, countless people lost their lives, and many citizens were left destitute and disheartened. Greenville College students were eager to offer relief, and organized a spring break mission's trip for the 2005-06 school year.
Five years later, this trip remains an integral part of Greenville College's call to service. Residence Life staff member, James Turner, is leading thegroup of 13 students to participate in the College's fifth consecutive trip to New Orleans. Working in partnership with the Evangelical Free Church of America (EFCA) and Urban Impact in New Orleans, the team will play an important role in the ongoing mission established to bring New Orleans back to its former glory. Throughout the week, the students will clean up neighborhood vacant lots, parks and around the community.
