GC Homecoming 2009

Published: April 13, 2021

GC alumni and friends of all ages, students, parents and future Panthers enjoyed the 2009 Homecoming festivities October 16 - 18.

With nearly 500 fans in the stands, the women's volleyball team opened the weekend of Panther athletics action with a thrilling five set victory over Robert Morris College of Springfield, IL, on Friday night. The Lady Panthers dominated the first set before dropping the second and third. With their backs against the wall, Greenville rallied to win the fourth and fifth sets to take the match.

A full Saturday of events began with 105 runners and walkers gathering outside the Student Union to brave the chilly morning air and participate in the President's Road Race. President Linamen fired up the racers at the start and said he plans to be racing right beside the group next year.

The men's and women's basketball teams hosted their annual games against the alumni. The men's soccer and women's volleyball teams conducted alumni games with their junior varsity teams competing against the alumni, and the women's soccer team hosted an alumni versus alumni game.

126 alums from the classes of 1984, 1989, 1994, 1999 and 2004 attended their reunion luncheons in the Armington Center dining room and then headed out to the athletics fields for great Panther action on the football and soccer fields.

Over 1000 fans were in attendance for the GC football team's 38-30 win over MacMurray. A 21-yard rushing touchdown from Ketrone Blanks with 2 minutes and 50 seconds remaining in the game broke a 30-30 tie, and Greenville completed a two point conversion to give the Panthers the win. Just a parking lot away, the Greenville College women's soccer team scored twice in the first 10 minutes of their game to give them the momentum needed for a 6-1 win over Fontbonne. The GC men's soccer team played Fontbonne, tying them 1-1 in double overtime.

As usual, future Panthers enjoyed the huge, inflatable slide while alumni and friends caught up with one another at the new Alumni Welcome Tent. 340 cups of hot chocolate were served as old friends greeted one another and cheered on the orange and black athletics teams. The weekend was a success and the memories made were infinite. The Greenville College community looks forward to seeing all of its alumni, friends, and family for another memorable Homecoming in 2010!
