GC Hosts “Hoops for Haiti”
Published: April 13, 2021
On February 17th, Greenville College is hosting a fundraising event called "Hoops for Haiti" during the Men's and Women's Basketball games against Blackburn College. Greenville College invites the entire community to attend as the teams "play for change."
The GC Athletics staff is partnering with the World Outreach and Missions Department to host "Hoops for Haiti," designed to raise money for the Bishop's Famine Relief Fund to heal Haiti through Free Methodist World Missions (FMWM).
"As we continue to partner with FMWM , our hope is to send different types of teams of professors and students to Haiti to aid the relief efforts. Haiti is going to be in the process of rebuilding for a long time and Greenville is committed to assist, support and do what we can. These experiences not only impact those who are suffering, but also provide significant life changing opportunities for our students while they are here at GC," explains Director of World Missions and Outreach Erin O'Hara.
As we are all aware, on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 Haiti was jolted by a 7.0 earthquake. The country is in shambles. The water system is polluted, and the people are in need of major medical assistance.
Greenville College invites the Greenville community, churches and youth groups, and neighboring towns to participate in "Hoops for Haiti" on Wednesday, February 17 to raise funds to assist the relief efforts. The event begins with the tip-off at the GC women's basketball game at 6 p.m. and will continue through the final buzzer at the end of the men's basketball game. Donations for Haiti will be accepted at the door, throughout both games, and during creative time-out activities.
GC is also selling "Hoops for Haiti" T-shirts before and during the event for only $10. All donations and T-shirt proceeds will go directly to the Haiti Relief Fund through FMWM . To order a T-shirt prior to the game and wear it that evening, please contact Erin O'Hara at erin.ohara@greenville.edu .
The night is sure to be packed full of great Panther basketball competition, fellowship and the opportunity to make a difference together. Please come and show your support!
