GC Presents Marching Band Logo After Successful Student Contest

The students were polled and the votes are in! Greenville College senior Matt Leefers is the winner of the marching band logo competition.

GC's brand new marching band is scheduled to kick off in the fall of 2010. Students will have the opportunity to play in pep band this fall as they prepare to begin marching in the fall of 2011. In an effort to build momentum behind this new initiative, Greenville College sought a means to involve the student community in its development. There was no better way than to utilize the talent and creativity of students by launching a nearly month long competition for the design of a logo to represent the marching band.

Leefers, a Digital Media major with an emphasis in Graphic Design and Film , beat out seven other student submissions with his design. The eight original designs were reviewed by a panel of faculty and administration, and narrowed to three finalists. These designs were then presented to and voted on by the student body. After 262 students voted, Leefers was announced the clear winner with an impressive 74% of the vote.

Leefers, who aspires to work for a graphic design company upon graduation, discovered his love for art when he won a coloring contest in the 5th grade. His interest in logo design was spurred by a multimedia class taken during his high school education, and has solidified throughout his time at Greenville. Leefers' design, which took approximately four hours to create, is based upon the type of huge bass drum typically seen in parades.

Upon winning the competition, Leefers said, "I feel so blessed that God gave me this opportunity because now I can use this experience in my portfolio and resume I couldn't be happier knowing that my design will be a part of the marching band for years to come."

Greenville College extends a hearty thank you and congratulations to Matt for his excellent work.
