GC Students Represent at the Rally for MAP Funding

Thousands of students gathered outside the Illinois state Capital in Springfield to voice their concerns about MAP funding on Thursday October 15th. GC represented 10% of the crowd at the rally, with 200 of the 2,000 attendees being GC students.
Illinois MAP is a need-based grant funded by the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC). The programwas facinga $200 million dollar shortfall and fundswould haverun out in January 2010. More than 137,000 Illinois residents receive the MAP grant to attend colleges in state. More than 400 of those students attend Greenville College (GC).
Following the rally, the Illinois House of Representatives passed legislation to restore the MAP Grant for the spring semester.
Nearly 138,000 Illinois college students receive the MAP Grant. The total funding for the spring semester MAP Grant equals roughly $200 million. The source of the funds is still uncertain and discussions will continue about funding for following years.
