GC Students Run for Freedom
Published: April 13, 2021
Members of Greenville College's Students for International Crisis Aid (SICA) are preparing for the second annual 5K Run for Freedom on Saturday, September 11 at Washington University in St. Louis.
Students are running and walking to help increase proceeds and local support for the International Crisis Aid (ICA) Safe Campaign. Since 2006, ICA, a St. Louis based nonprofit organization, has opened seven Safe Homes and organized numerous global efforts to help eliminate sex trafficking both inside and outside of the United States borders.
Greenville students, as part of a College wide focus on Christian responses to violence, formally began the student organization SICA in 2009 in response to ICA's need for help and support. The student organization leads Greenville College's student body in service projects and fund raising to help raise the local communities' awareness and support for ICA's efforts. ICA's multi-purpose focus includes working to end sex trafficking, famine, and provide medical support to people in impoverished countries that are in need of help.
This year's 5K Freedom Run marks Greenville College's third race to raise support and awareness for ICA, and the beginning of this year's SICA endeavors. "I can't think of a better way to kick-off the year for SICA," says returning and 5K participating SICA member Faith Harkness.
Check-in begins at 8:00am and the race begins at 9:00am at Washington University in St. Louis. For more information about the race visit ICA's website.
