GC's Response to the Crisis in Haiti

Published: April 13, 2021

Dear Greenville College Community,

By now, we are all aware of the overwhelming devastation that has left Haiti in ruins. Our thoughts and prayers are pouring out for the people.

The World Outreach and Missions Department currently does not have any academic or missions teams present in Haiti, but we do have a team serving in the Dominican Republic with Students International. The team is being led by Dr. Brian Reinhard and Erica Ritter. I have been in contact with Students International Headquarters in the US and have received emails and text messages from co-leader, Erica, letting me know they are safe. She explained that they all felt the earthquake when it happened, but it was very minor where they are. They continue to serve at their ministry sites which are Healthcare, Sports and Recreation, and Social Work.

GC's Response
We have a collection of individuals that have come forward to discuss Greenville College's response to the crisis in Haiti. We intentionally want to pursue tangible ways that the Greenville College community can get involved and assist the global efforts to restore Haiti. As the story continues to unfold, we will keep you updated about decisions and ways you can get involved. We are considering many options, from raising money for an organization's relief efforts to sending a team of students and professors to help with clean up. We have many existing relationships with missions organizations and we fully intend to partner with one of those to find out how and when we can help. In the meantime, we ask that you check out the efforts being made by these four organizations to begin restoring hope for Haiti.
