#GivingTuesdayGU: Abishai Bokare ’23, Worship Arts, Music Industry Studies
Published: April 13, 2021
GU offered something Abishai Bokare 23 couldnt find in his home country of India: a degree in worship music at the collegiate level. Still, international schooling presented many challenges, including covering tuition.
Thanks to donors just like you, Abishai received assistance with tuition and more. Scholarship donors enabled Abishai to:
- focus his study on the worship arts;
- receive guidance from an excellent mentor, Worship Arts Professor Paul Sunderland;
- gain hands-on experience leading worship through GUs worship bands, and
- learn of valuable internships through GUs music industry and church connections.
Ultimately, Abishai dreams of becoming a worship arts professor himself and beginning a university-level worship arts program in India, where there is none.
Scholarship money plays a huge role in me being here, he says. Speaking for the entire international student community, I think that we are all grateful to Greenville University for their support.
After Abishai enrolled at GU, he arrived in the U.S. to a warm welcome. He has since discovered fellowship and guidance from professors and students alike.
I thought I would be homesick, but I was not at all homesick because of how kind and welcoming the people were, he says. That kindness began with unseenbut wholly appreciatedscholarship donors like you.
Your simple act of generosity reaches students like worship-leader-in training Abishai. Thank you for giving.
