#GivingTuesdayGU: Ivy Lyons ’19, Philosophy and Music Industry Studies

Published: April 13, 2021

Ivy is a man of many talents and he throws them all wholeheartedly into service.

This philosophy major has his eye on a grad degree in political philosophy so he can serve the public in politics, focusing especially on situations in which the rights of the people are being challenged. A prestigious internship in the office of Illinois Senator Dick Durbin confirmed Ivys aptitude for this path when Durbin recognized and affirmed Ivys passion for serving society.

Ivy serves G.U. as well. He works as an assistant CRE for Residence Life, performs various tasks for the Department of Music, lends his voice to three choir groups and gives of his time to the Factory Theatre and the Universitys radio station WGRN.

But Ivys potential might have gone untapped. There was a time when he couldnt imagine financing four years in higher education. To his relief, donors who support G.U. scholarships invested in Ivy.

Ivy is acutely aware of the number of students who feel cut off from their dreams due to financial obstacles.

Im not the only student whos in this [tough financial] situation, Ivy says. Every dollar given really does help students like me, people who are looking for their future, looking to find themselves and continue their education.

Ivy is the grateful recipient of the Clyde and Florence Page Scholarship, the Mosaic Diversity Scholarship, the G.U. Marching and Pep Band Award and the G.U. Campus Visit Award. He hopes that G.U. donors will continue to have a heart for students with bigger-than-average financial hurdles.

How many students are waiting in the wings for their chance? You deliver that chance with your gift to #GivingTuesdayGU. Thank you!
