Greenville College Announces 2009 Commencement Weekend Schedule

GREENVILLE, IL - Greenville College will conduct its 117th Commencement exercises with ceremonies and festivities on Saturday and Sunday, May 23 and 24.

The Adult, Graduate Studies and UTEP Commencement will be held in the Crum Recreation Center at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 23. Dr. Steven Hollar of Warsaw, IN will deliver the Commencement address.

Greenville College choir will hold a short concert at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday in the James E. Wilson Recital Hall in the Whitlock Music Center. Events will continue with the traditional Ivy Cutting ceremony at 5:30 p.m. on Hogue lawn. Graduating seniors will stand in a circle holding a long connected strand of ivy originally planted at the beginning of their freshmen year. In a silent ceremony GC interim President Dr. Ed Blue will move around the circle, cutting the ivy between each senior to symbolize a parting of ways.


Sunday morning a Baccalaureate service will take place at 11:00 a.m. in the Crum Recreation Center. Greenville College instructor Ruth Huston will give the Baccalaureate address.

Commencement ceremonies for traditional graduates begin at 3 p.m. on Sunday in the Crum Recreation Center. The Commencement address will be delivered by Dr. Edward McKinley of Wilmore, KY.
