Greenville College Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet Set for April 10

Five individuals and one team are among the slate set for induction into the Greenville College Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday, April 10. The class of 2010 inductees include Lewis Carroll, Beth (Lunte) McFeron, and Andrea (Shultz) Vogler, athletic category; Henry Johnson Long, pioneer category; Dr. Cecil Zweifel, meritorious achievement category; and the 1979 women's tennis team, team category. Hall of Fame InducteesLewis Carroll, Athletic Category
Lewis Carroll, a class of 1983 graduate, had an immediate impact on the Greenville College men's soccer program. He played in 1979, 1981, and 1982. He was a top scorer, an all-conference and all-district honoree, and a three-time team most valuable player.
In 1981, he led the Panthers to their first appearance in the NAIA district tournament and their most wins in a single season to that point in 1982.
Carroll currently resides in London, Ontario where he teaches third grade at Masonville Public School. He has one son.
Beth (Lunte) McFeron, Athletic Category
Beth (Lunte) McFeron, a former three-sport standout at Greenville College, graduated in 1998. She participated in softball, volleyball, and women's basketball.
A SLIAC all-conference honoree and team captain in volleyball and softball, she set softball pitching records in wins, strikeouts, and appearances over her four-year career. A four-time most valuable player and often the only pitcher on her softball teams, she hurled multiple no-hitters, gained NCCAA all-district and All-American recognition, and received the 1997 SLIAC softball player of the year award. She later became one of Greenville's two inaugural entries in the SLIAC Hall of Fame.
McFeron currently resides in Nashville, Ill., where she is a professional photographer. She has a daughter and son.
Andrea (Shultz) Vogler, Athletic Category
Andrea (Shultz) Vogler, a graduate of the class of 2003, was Greenville's most decorated female track and field athlete of all time. She competed at nationally recognized levels in the shot put, discus, weight throw, and hammer throw events.
A five-time NCCAA national champion and four-time NCAA Division III All-American, she became Greenville's top performing female athlete when she placed second in the hammer throw competition at the 2002 NCAA Division III outdoor national championships.
Currently an accountant for the hospital in Macomb, Ill., Vogler resides in Camden, Ill., with her husband Chris and their three daughters.
Henry Johnson Long, Pioneer Category
Dr. Henry Johnson Long served as president of Greenville College from 1936-62. Over his 26 years as Greenville president, Dr. Long completed a remarkable journey in introducing intercollegiate athletics to the Greenville campus. Through his efforts, he was successful in repealing the long-standing prohibition on intercollegiate athletics at institutions of the Free Methodist Church and, in the process, effectively created intercollegiate athletics in 1943.
Today, the gymnasium is named in his honor and the top male athlete at Greenville College receives an award bearing his name.
Dr. Long passed away on July 4, 1980. He and his wife Lena, who also passed away later in 1980, were the parents of three children - Ruth, Harold, and Doris..
Dr. Cecil Zweifel, Meritorious Achievement Category
Dr. Cecil Zweifel, a class of 1952 graduate, spent nearly 50 years as a coach, professor, and administrator at Asbury College in Wilmore, Ky.
While at Asbury, he successfully established the physical education and intercollegiate athletic programs where he served as an award-winning men's soccer coach, baseball coach, men's tennis coach, athletic director, and division chair of the health, physical education, recreation, and athletic departments
Dr. Zweifel resides in Wilmore with his wife, Johnetta. They have two adult children - James and Cecile.
1979 Women's Tennis Team, Team Category
Known for depth in singles and dominating doubles teams, Coach Pam Craig and her squad finished the fall with an undefeated record of 9-0.
The season featured wins over regionally recognized colleges and universities en route to the Lady Panthers' first perfect tennis season and appearance in the Illinois Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women state tournament.
Members of the squad later distinguished themselves in careers of teaching, coaching, and humanitarian activities
Order of the Orange and Black RecipientChristina Niehaus
Christina Niehaus, a class of 2008 graduate, was an athletic and academic standout at Greenville College. As a member of the women's track and field program, Niehaus collected numerous awards and honors over her four year career.
Her national awards started as a freshman when she earned NCAA Division III outdoor All-American honors in the 2005 discus competition and continued three more years. Before her career was complete, she was a five-time NCCAA national champion and four-time NCAA Division III All-American.
Her academic awards included six honors as an USTFCCCA NCAA Division III academic All-American and four times as an NCCAA scholar athlete.
Niehaus currently resides in Gillespie, Ill.
