Greenville College Enlists as VA Yellow Ribbon School
Published: April 13, 2021
Greenville College has volunteered to participate in the Yellow Ribbon Program to assist qualified veterans with educational expenses. The new program will broaden educational options for many veterans who wish to study at private or out-of-state colleges and universities. The Yellow Ribbon Program is a provision of the Post-9/11 GI Bill, effective Aug. 1.
Yellow Ribbon schools enter into a matching agreement with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Greenville College will fund 50 percent, the maximum amount allowed, of tuition and fees that exceed the highest public in-state undergraduate rate covered by the Post-9/11 Bill. The VA will match Greenville's contribution for each student.
"This is a great program that allows veterans to pursue a Christian education with very generous VA funding," said Michael Ritter, assistant vice president for enrollment. "Greenville College quickly volunteered for the Yellow Ribbon Program when given the opportunity, and we are excited about welcoming additional veterans to our school."
Many veterans are limited to specific state universities under previous VA provisions. The Yellow Ribbon Program now provides full coverage of tuition and fees for qualified veterans at a number of participating private schools. Veterans may also be eligible for additional funding for living expenses under the Post-9/11 Bill.
Veterans who served at least 36 months of active duty after Sept. 10, 2001, or received an honorable discharge from active duty for a service related disability qualify for the Yellow Ribbon Program and full benefits under the Post-9/11 GI Bill.
Greenville has agreed to support up to 99 veterans through the Yellow Ribbon Program and expects an increase in VA students over the coming years. For questions regarding veterans' benefits at Greenville College, contact Assistant Registrar Julie Mason at 618-664-7027.
