Greenville College Focuses on Online Learning
Published: April 13, 2021
Greenville College is offering online courses this fall as part of a major new initiative. Online learning allows the school to extend its reach to new students and to provide flexible scheduling options for current students. The college will use its Angel learning platform, a state-of-the-art web-based learning tool known for its ease of use, to host fall courses.
"Online learning allows Greenville College faculty to reach places most of us can only dream about. Whether students are on an aircraft carrier in the Pacific or a mission village in Africa, Greenville College faculty can go there with them. Gone are the days where the small caring Christian liberal arts college is limited geographically to a privileged few," stated Dr. Larry Linamen, appointed as the 11th president at Greenville College on July 1, 2009.
Greenville College offered its first online courses this past summer. Students were pleased with the convenience and flexibility that online learning provided.
Chris Coulton, a student from an online sociology class, was one of 90 students who took online classes this summer. "This was my first online class, yet I can already say I almost enjoy online learning more than classroom learning. It offers flexibility and a vibrant yet more relaxed atmosphere," said Coulton.
Greenville doubled the number of online courses for the fall semester to accommodate returning college students and to support its new high school dual enrollment program. A total of 12 courses are available online this fall. Information about the online classes is available at www.greenville.edu/online.
Greenville College invited several high school juniors and seniors to participate in online dual enrollment courses this fall. The college recognized growing demand among qualified and motivated high school students who hope to get an early start on college. Online learning will help Greenville College assist these students who, as a generation, are comfortable with using new technology in a learning environment.
Greenville College is well equipped to accommodate online learners as new technologies continue to change the academic landscape. The Ruby E. Dare library provides a variety of academic databases that can be accessed online. The school has developed several short-term and long-term goals to expand its online programs.
Plans are currently underway to include both undergraduate and graduate level courses. By spring 2010, online courses will be available for the bachelor's degree in organizational leadership and the master's degree in education for teacher leadership. The organizational leadership program provides degrees for working adults who want to complete their undergraduate education, and the master's in education is available for teachers who want to gain greater skills and a career advantage.
Information about online classes is available from Jill Waldis, admissions coordinator, at 800-345-4440 or by e-mail at admissions@greenville.edu.
