Greenville College Raises Heart Health Awareness

Published: April 13, 2021

This year for Valentine's Day at Greenville College, we invited everyone on staff, every faculty member, and every student on campus to wear red. Was it because we love the day normally dedicated to sweethearts and romance? No, it actually wasn't. It's because February is American Heart Month. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. In fact, heart disease is linked to one in every three deaths and contributes to 2,200 deaths per day. Most of us know someone who has suffered from cardiovascular diseases like heart attack or stroke. Heart disease is also a leading cause of disability preventing people from working and enjoying family activities. February isn't over yet, so any day you happen to be wearing red this month, take a moment to think about ways to give yourself a "healthy heart."
