Greenville College Students Create Usable Green Space

Published: April 13, 2021

More than 300 incoming students worked together with faculty and community volunteers to erect a new walking trail and disc golf course at Greenville College. The new recreation space is part of 44 acres donated to the college in March by two generous alumni.

Students completed the bulk of the project during the morning of August 29 as they built retaining walls, cut brush, spread limestone, and installed disc golf baskets. Students also restored and extended a boardwalk to span the low-lying wetland section of the walking trail.

The walking trail is approximately a one mile round trip, and the property offers nine holes of disc golf. The trail and disc golf course will open later this month. The property is located just north of Greenville College's main campus.

The project was the 14th annual service event for new students. Previous projects include planting trees and removing trash along the Meramec River in Missouri and maintaining trails for the Kingsbury Park District in Greenville.
