Greenville College "Tips a Hat" and Presents Awards at Wilson T. Hogue Reunion

Greenville College proudly awarded the Distinguished Alumnus Award and the Loyalty Award during the closing banquet of the Wilson T. Hogue Reunion on June 12. Over 125 alumni and friends gathered for the Wilson T. Hogue reunion which recognizes those who graduated 51 years ago or more.
The Distinguished Alumnus Award was given to Bishop William Grant Black of the Episcopal Church and Bishop Robert Frederick Andrews of the Free Methodist Church. The Distinguished Alumnus Award is given to those who demonstrate outstanding accomplishment in their profession, dedication to the College, and exhibit Christ-like character.
The Loyalty Award was presented to Mrs. Juanita Mooney Burge in honor of her exceeding loyalty and passion for the College.
Bishop William Grant Black
Distinguished Alumnus
Bishop William Grant Black, class of 1941, began his career in the Episcopal Church in 1961. During his long and effective tenure he served with honor and distinction in several parishes and posts within the Diocese of Southern Ohio. Black was elected bishop in 1979, and presided over the Diocese of Southern Ohio until his retirement in 1992.
Following his retirement Black was awarded the title Bishop Emeritus. Bishop Black has been an active alumnus contributing to the College through his gifts of service and resources. He was particularly active in securing funding for the establishment of the Shapiro Chair for Jewish-Christian Studies in Greenville College's Department of Philosophy and Religion.
Bishop Black earned a Bachelor of Science in Education; he went on to earn a Master of Arts in Education from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, and a Bachelor of Divinity from the University of Chicago.
Bishop Black now lives in Springfield, Illinois with his wife Frances, class of 1940.
Bishop Robert Frederick Andrews
Distinguished Alumnus
Bishop Robert Frederick Andrews, class of 1949, began his ministry in the Free Methodist Church in 1952 as a pastor in Caldwell, Kansas. He went on to serve as northern regional director of Free Methodist Youth and president of Wessington Springs College and Academy. In 1965, he became the director and speaker of the Light and Life Hour, the international radio broadcast of the Free Methodist Church, where he served until his election as bishop in 1979.
Bishop Andrews served on numerous boards and agencies representing the Free Methodist Church with great skill and honor throughout the world.
Bishop Andrews also graduated from Central College in McPherson, Kansas and Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky. Western Evangelical Seminary in Portland, Oregon awarded Andrews with an honorary Doctorate of Divinity in 1977.
He now resides in Lakeland, Florida with his wife Genevieve, class of 1948.
Juanita Mooney Burge
Loyalty Award
Juanita Mooney Burge, class of 1950, had a long and successful career as a public school teacher in Illinois, Kansas and Michigan. From 1964 to 1984 she taught art and history at the Greenville Junior High School. Burge taught as an adjunct faculty member at Greenville College and worked as an art instructor and assistant principal at a school in the Dominican Republic.
Burge served on the Greenville College Alumni Board in a variety of capacities. For 60 years she has been an instrumental member of a continuous circular letter group of 13 women from the classes of 1949-1951. Her loyalty to the College has contributed to its warmth and character both locally and throughout the country.
Burge earned a Masters in Administration and a Specialists Degree from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 1976 and 1977.
She now lives in Greenville, Illinois with her husband Calvin, class of 1949.
Greenville College, founded in 1892, has presented the Distinguished Alumnus Award to 72 alumni, and the Loyalty Award to 59.
