New Vice President for Advancement Walter Fenton is no stranger to Greenville College. Fenton graduated from GC in 1984 and now returns to campus to lead its advancement efforts. He looks forward to meeting with alumni and friends of the college, and creating long-lasting partnerships to continue to enhance the value and reputation of Greenville College both nationally and globally.
After graduating from Greenville with a B.A. in History and Political Science in 1984, Fenton continued his education at Yale University , completing a Masters of Divinity Degree in 1990 and a Masters of Sacred Theology in 1991. Fenton also completed studies at Vanderbilt University , receiving a Masters of Arts in Religion in 2004.
Walter was ordained a Deacon and Elder in the United Methodist Church (UMC) in 1996 and 1998 respectively. He served churches in Michigan and New Jersey. In 2006 he was appointed to serve with Good News: A Forum for Scriptural Christianity, Inc. as Director of Development and Networking. During this time, Fenton also served as an Associate Pastor at Princeton UMC in Princeton, New Jersey. Most recently, Fenton served as the Chief Operating Officer for Good News, a position he began in March 2009.
Despite his love for working with the Good News organization, he decided to return to Greenville College to serve as Vice President for Advancement saying, "I am excited about the opportunity to play some role in helping young people have the type of faith and learning experience I had when I attended the college. I know firsthand that GC is an institution that transforms lives and builds a person's character."
"I look forward to working closely with our new President, Dr. Larry Linamen," Fenton continued. "I appreciate his deep respect for the college, and his vision for it going forward. It's a great time to be back at the college as it plans for a strong and dynamic future."
As Fenton assumes his new post, he welcomes the opportunity to tell the institutions continuing story. "It's a place steeped in great traditions, with as dedicated a faculty and staff as ever, and alumni and friends who love it dearly."
