ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) has announced Greenville College as the winner of the 2011-12 overall Sportsmanship Award. This is the second year that the award is being presented.
Since the 2005-2006 academic year, the Conference has awarded a sportsmanship award in each of the 12 championship sports. Each school that sponsors the sport votes for three schools whose players, coaches, and fans best exhibit the qualities of good sportsmanship. Points are awarded on a 5-3-1 basis. The school with the highest accumulated point total is declared the winner of the SLIAC overall Sportsmanship Award.
The Panthers won a conference-best four team Sportsmanship Awards, including men's basketball, men's soccer, women's cross country, and women's tennis. Principia, Eureka, and Westminster were second with two team Sportsmanship Awards.
Greenville College finished in the topthree a total of six times. Their athletic teams appeared on over 53 percent of the ballots case in the 11 sports the institution sponsored.
