Greenville Men's Soccer Ties for First in SLIAC Preseason Coaches' Poll

GREENVILLE, Ill. - Greenville College and Fontbonne University have been chosen as the top teams in the 2009 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer preseason coaches' poll. Both teams received 57 points in the poll, while the Griffins (3) had one more first place vote than the Panthers (2).

Greenville won the 2008 SLIAC Tournament Championship and finished with a 15-4-3 overall record and 6-1-1 in the SLIAC. In the NCAA tournament, the Panthers were defeated by Loras, an eventual national semifinalist.

The Panthers' top returning players in 2009 include four all-conference honorees. Sophomore David Dunlop, a second team selection and the 2009 newcomer of the year, returns at forward after leading the conference in goals (16) and points (44) last season.

Also returning for the Panthers are three SLIAC honorable mention selections - senior defender Terrance Cosby, sophomore midfielder Daniel Taylor, and senior forward Matt Reeb. Reeb and Taylor were second and third on the Panthers squad last year with 12 and 11 goals respectively, while both players finished with 29 points on the season.

Fontbonne, the defending regular season champion and deadlocked with Greenville for first place in the preseason poll, posted a record of 9-8-2 overall and 6-0-2 in conference play last season.

Principia, who posted a record of 11-6-3 overall and 5-1-2 in the SLIAC last year, also received three first place votes in the poll.
