Hands-On Experience at GC Leads Alum to Dream Job

Rebecca Conner graduated from Greenville College in May 2010 receiving her degree in Digital Media with a Video & Film emphasis. Despite a slow economy and tough job market, following graduation Conner received a position as an associate producer with television station WSIL-ABC in Carbondale.
While a student, Conner took full advantage of all the resources and opportunities at Greenville College. After taking digital media classes on campus, she participated in GC's partnership with the Counsel for Christian Colleges and Universities' (CCCU) Best Semester program to attend the Los Angeles Film Studies Center during the spring of her junior year. Part of the film study semester included an internship which gave Conner over 200 hours of hands-on experience.
Her class work at Greenville, internship, and experience while in LA set things in motion for Conner to use her network of friends and family to line up an internship with the TV station WSIL-ABC in Carbondale the summer before her senior year at Greenville College. "When I got home for the summer I started my internship there, and it was so much more than I expected it to be," stated Conner.
During her senior year at GC, following her summer internship with WSIL-ABC, Conner used her experience to start the Greenville College Student News (GCSN) in the spring of 2010. GCSN is designed to report campus news to students, from students. Greenville College students are still reaping the benefits of Conner's dedication, hard work, and example while a student and will continue the GCSN broadcast for years to come.
Rebecca Conner's current position with WSIL-ABC allows Conner to continue what she did as an intern, but also adds to her responsibilities to other areas of the station. "It turned out to be exactly what I was looking for," confirmed Conner. Following graduation from Greenville College, she was also the sound engineer on the award winning Paducah 48 hour film project titled Self-Help Sherlock. Rebecca Conner's success after leaving Greenville provides encouragement for current students.
Conner is from Du Quoin, IL, and attended Greenville College all four years.
