Harris Qualifies for DIII Championships

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The Lady Panthers Track and Field squad made their second appearance of the season in Jacksonville, IL where they competed in the Illinois College Dr. Jim Green Invitational on Saturday, February 6.

The weekend action saw 14 NCCAA qualifying marks and one NCAA DIII qualifier.

Rochaunda Harris (East St. Louis, IL/East St. Louis) gave the women their first NCAA qualifier of the year in the Weight Throw with a lifetime best throw of 15.65m (51-04.25). Harris won the event by more than four feet. Senior Jaclyn Johnson-Cross (Belleville, IL/Belleville East) complimented Harris' performance with a season best of her own, throwing 13.81m (45-03.75) to capture third place.

Senior Abby Owens (Orion, IL/Orion) finished third in the High Jump with a season best of 1.57m (5-01.75). A pair of freshmen, Tricia Gall (Troy, IL/Triad) and Jalyn Jant (Litchfield, IL/Litchfield), had success of their own in the jumps area. The tandem finished fifth and sixth in the Triple Jump with final marks of 10.41m (34-02) and 10.19m (33-05.25), respectively.

Michelle Sutton (Sr./Springport, MI/Jackson), once again, ran away with the Mile. For the second week in a row Michelle's victory was uncontested as she posted a time of 5:21.02. Her closest competitor was her teammate, senior Sara Schlink (Washington, IL/Washington), who ran a lifetime best of 5:36.12 to finish in second place overall.

The ladies also saw second place finishes from seniors Talen Gerber (Fairbury, IL/Prairie Central) and Shanna Ambuehl (Kinmundy, IL/South Central). Gerber took second in the 800m Run with a 2:23.77 and Ambuehl opened her season in the 5,000m Run with a respectable 19:32.36.
