High Enrollment and Record Breaking Retention at Greenville College

Published: April 13, 2021

During a time of economic uncertainty for so many colleges and universities, Greenville College announces high enrollment and record breaking retention for the fall 2010 semester. Traditional enrollment, after a slight down year in 2009, is back up with 1,123 students enrolled.

GC experienced a 30 percent increase in the number of student-athletes thanks in part to the successful launch of new junior varsity teams. There are 385 athletes on campus this year, and almost 50 percent of new students this fall are athletes.

The coaching staff at Greenville College, along with the admissions office, worked hard to recruit students and help them find their home away from home. "The coaches at Greenville are talented, sacrificial and committed to the mission of our institution. Their recruiting efforts this year exemplify these characteristics. I feel fortunate to work with such an outstanding group of people," says Athletic Director Doug Faulkner.

Greenville College also announces record breaking student retention, with 86.8 percent of last year's students returning this fall. All of the faculty and staff go above and beyond to create a community that helps students engage and learn. "Our faculty become more than just professors. They engage students outside of the classroom with Bible studies, meals in their homes, a cup of coffee and encouraging words, and by attending and supporting students' co-curricular activities. Research shows that students who are engaged in and out of the classroom benefit from the rich academic environment as well as the earned social capital," explains Vice President and Dean of Student Development Norm Hall.

Enrollment in non-traditional, online, and summer courses is also on the rise. The College served more than 2,000 students in non-traditional courses during the past academic year. Approximately 600 students participated in summer programs, which included a full schedule of online courses, and specific programs designed for teachers who wanted to add endorsements to their teaching certificate.

Greenville also celebrates the recently published US News & World Report "America's Best Colleges" article, in which Greenville College again ranked in the top tier among Midwest baccalaureate colleges. Not only did Greenville College maintain a top tier position, but the college also improved its ranking, moving up more spots than any other college in the Midwest baccalaureate college category this year.

"Even with the tough news we keep hearing about the state of our economy, we're thrilled to see so many students coming to us for their education. It's very humbling to see how the Lord is using Greenville College to empower students for the bright future that awaits them," says Vice President for Enrollment Michael Ritter.
