Into the End Zone; Out of the Comfort Zone

Published: April 13, 2021

During season, the Greenville College Panther Football team is on the prowl and charging toward the end zone. The off-season is a different ball game as coaches and players challenge themselves to get out of the zone; their comfort zone. For the second year, 22 Greenville College football players and coaches are spending spring break serving in Philadelphia, PA.

The Philadelphia mission trip fits directly into the core mission of the GC Football program by challenging guys to get out of their comfort zone and serve others. "I am very excited about the opportunity to go with our guys on this trip!" explained Coach Jake Schenk, Defensive Coordinator. "I believe God is going to change lives, not only in the people we meet, but within our group as well. When you take a trip like this, you never come back the same and I am excited about this for everyone."

During the week, the team is cleaning up a drug riddled park and putting on a football camp there for the local children. There are few, if any, organized athletic programs for children in the community there, so the team is filling that need. The team will also have the opportunity to spread the message of Jesus through the football camp.

"I am extremely excited about this opportunity to share Christ's love with others. This is what our program is truly about. It should be a great growing experience for both the kids and for us as well," said Cody Huchin, Wide Receiver.
