Land Donation Connects Greenville College to New Opportunities
Published: April 13, 2021
Greenville College nearly doubled the size of its main campus this week thanks to two generous alumni who donated 44 acres of undeveloped contiguous property.
"I believe this is a gift for generations. The property will not only benefit current students, but will also impact the college for the next century," said President Larry Linamen.
The property is located directly north of campus between Beaumont Avenue and Highway 140 and borders the Hoiles Gardens. A portion of the acreage was once used as a gravel quarry providing dramatic changes in elevation now covered with young trees and foliage.
College officials are excited about incorporating the property into the institution's master plan given the land's aesthetic beauty. Short-term opportunities range from recreational space for students to academic use for programs like environmental biology. Long-term uses for the 44 acre addition will be carefully considered in the years to come.
"We do not know the creative ways God will use this property, but we praise the Lord for the gracious donations that made this a debt free transaction," said Linamen. "The donors truly felt called to share these resources with Greenville College. I could hear the joy in their voices as they sacrificially gave this gift to our institution."
