Master's in Management Offers Hands-on Learning
Published: April 13, 2021
Greenville College is expanding its graduate programs to include a masters degree in management intended for working professionals. The new program will feature an action learning project, and students will benefit from the leadership of Dr. Ivan Filby who has taught similar programs at one of the worlds top ranked universities.
The action learning emphasis allows each student to identify an organizational problem to address. Not only do students receive a masters degree, but they also gain relevant managerial experience throughout the 20 month program.
We recognize that experienced leaders and managers have much to contribute to the process of developing effective management practice. It is the combination of academic rigor and managerial insight that helps form new ideas, said Dr. Filby.
Dr. Filby, the lead professor for Greenville's master's degree in management, taught graduate programs for 16 years in Management Practice, Business Administration and Organization Behavior all run jointly between the School of Business Studies, University of Dublin - Trinity College and the Irish Management Institute. University of Dublin was recently ranked 13th in Europe and 43rd in the world by the London Times.
The Master of Science in Management Practice is designed to help students identify and develop the skills necessary to manage contemporary organizations. Courses cover topics such as strategic marketing, human resource strategies, information technology for managers, and organization theory and practice. Participants use ideas from readings and discussions to describe and analyze their organizations and develop their program wide action learning project.
The program offers a convenient blend of online and face-to-face learning. Students attend class one weekend each month. Between face-to-face meetings, students will use Greenvilles online learning platform to submit assignments, discuss organizational issues, and stay connected with professors and peers.
The graduate program accepts students with a wide range of bachelors degrees. It also provides a seamless transition for graduates of Greenvilles Organizational Leadership program which is offered in cities from Peoria to Belleville and online.
Greenville College hopes to expand its masters degree offerings in the coming years as the school continues to examine opportunities for new graduate programs.
