JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - The men's track and field team edged out a field of 12 teams Saturday to claim the first place spot in the Illinois College Dr. Jim Green Classic. A late rally by the men's triple jump served Greenville the one-point meet victory.
The Panthers sat in the number two spot heading into the men's triple jump event and were hoping for big performances from their three participants to give Greenville its first meet title of the year. The threesome that included Jumaane Bey, Warith Fennoy, and first year GC track athlete and junior Matt Pollek delivered in the clutch with a first, second, and fifth place finish respectively.
Bey won the event with a finals jump of 13.40 meters. This mark was a lifetime best for the senior and also served as an NCCAA qualifying mark.
Junior sprinter Brian White continued his season's success with another strong finish in the 60-meter dash. White's time of 6.97 earned him second place while holding his effort as the fifth fastest in all of NCAA Division III.
Apart from White, Greenville qualified six competitors in the 60-meter dash for the NCCAA indoor national championships.
The men's track and field team will next compete Saturday, Feb. 12, at Monmouth (Ill.) in the Fighting Scot Invitational.
