ST. LOUIS, Mo. The Panthers posted five top-five performances in the Friday-Saturday Washington University Invitational as the mens outdoor club claimed 11th place in the March mega meet at WUSTL.
Acting as one of the largest meets of the year, the Washington University St. Louis Invitational showcased 52 teams across the mens and womens side and featured over 300 student athletes spanning from NCAA Division I to NAIA. The men displayed a strong showing with six athletes cracking the top five in their 11th place effort, and made strides towards future success in 2012.
Even though this meet was huge we were able to do some good things, commented assistant coach and former GC track great Bryson Taylor. Our men stayed composed and turned in a nice performance while really improving.
On the track it was senior sprinter Brian White that headlined the Black & Orange efforts individually. White posted a time of 10.98 in the 100m dash and earned fifth place. White then joined sophomores Anthony Ambers and Josh Garcia, and freshman Bruce Gray in the 4x100m relay and helped the foursome cross the timeline in 42.26 and garner 4th.
In the field, both second-year standout Matt Pollek and senior Alex Wilson broke into the top five in their respective events. Pollek went 4th in the long jump (6.54m) and 5th in the triple jump (13.34m) to earn the squad nine points in the pits, and Wilson added five points to the teams total in the javelin with a 4th place, 51.67m effort.
Mens track and field will return to WUSTL next weekend to compete in the Washington University Select Meet.
