GREENVILLE, Ill. - The Greenville College Men's Track and Field team traveled to Monmouth, IL for the Monmouth College Fighting Scot Indoor Invitational. The men faced stiff competition as they were pitted against three teams currently ranked in the top 20 in the nation. This provided a great week of preparation for the squad before traveling to next week's NCCAA National Championships.
Edgar Townsend (Kankakee, IL/Kankakee) continued his march through the season as one of the nation's top 55m Hurdlers. He used a season best 7.56 to finish second overall in the event. Townsend then doubled back to finish fourth in the 200, running another season best of 22.82. In other sprint action, it was Mark Mitchell (Kansas City, MO/Raytown South) and Brian White (Harvey, IL/Thornton) who gave the Panthers fourth (6.58) and sixth (6.61) place finishes, respectively, in the 55m Dash.
Jumaane Bey (Apple Valley, CA/Apple Valley) posted another breakthrough performance as he finished second in the Triple Jump. The sophomore cracked the 45' mark for the first time in his career as he ended the day with a new PR of 45-05.25 (13.85m).
The event of the day, however, belonged to the middle distance crew of Coree Woltering (Ottowa, IL/Ottowa) and Rodney Oyler (Macon, IL/Meridian) in the 800m Run. Oyler pushed the pace and broke the race open before Woltering pushed past and held him off for the win. Woltering came out of the day with a win and a big lifetime best of 1:56.41. Oyler finished second overall with a season best of 1:57.19.
