Renovation and Addition to Joy Residence Hall, Summer 2011

Greenville College is pleased to announce the renovation and addition to Joy Residence Hall scheduled to begin on May 24, 2011. College representatives selected Poettker Construction Co., Inc. of Breese, Ill. for the 90-day project.
In order to better serve the campus community and the future residents of Joy Hall, Greenville College is proceeding with the approximately three million dollar project to renovate and extend the residence hall. Constructed in 1962, Joy Hall has not undergone a major renovation or upgrade since it was built. The majority of the financial support for this capital improvement project will be funded by the Illinois Board of Higher Education. Greenville College is one of 64 non-profit colleges and universities that received funds from the IBHE capital improvement grant.
"Residence life is an essential component of the Greenville College experience. Living on campus positively impacts student grades, retention and sense of community. We are excited about the prospect of a renovated Joy Hall. This long-overdue remodeling and addition will provide our students with a comfortable, safe, energy efficient residence with updated amenities that will enhance learning and community for years to come," said President Larry Linamen.
Upon completion of the renovation, the lower level of Joy Hall will offer improved accessibility due to the addition of five rooms that comply to ADA Standards for Accessible Design. Low flow toilets, new windows, and updated airflow units will also make Joy Hall a more energy efficient building. New construction will extend the residence hall to the East creating more common living space for students, which allows for more community and academic activities in the residence. The renovation of Joy Hall will not only update the amenities and improve student living, but enhance the appearance of the building.
The 92-student, traditional residence hall will reopen in time to house underclassmen for the Fall 2011 semester.
