Sayler Receives CPA Certification

Associate Professor of Management Larry Sayler has administered a good number of exams in his career. A lifelong learner, he's taken his share as well. This spring Sayler not only passed all four tests that comprise the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam on his first try, but he achieved exceptionally high scores. To put this into perspective, fewer than half of the persons who attempt the tests pass them on the first try. Based on test results published from previous years, Sayler's scores rank among the highest.
"I spent right at 900 hours preparing," said Sayler, "equivalent to 40 hours a week for 22 weeks." The professor devoted a well-earned sabbatical to readying himself for the rigorous exam. "I truly enjoyed the studying," he added.
Sayler's achievement of the CPA designation benefits Greenville College. "I know it will change some of the material I include in some courses," he says. "It will allow me to better counsel students who want to pursue the CPA designation." Sayler's CPA also puts Greenville College on par with other institutions that offer accounting majors.
The CPA exam covers accounting, auditing, and regulations pertaining to tax and business law. It also covers economics, international trade, investment decisions, finance and IT. Typically, each of the four tests takes three to four hours to complete.
Sayler has established a track record of excellence when it comes to assessments. Several years ago he completed the Certified Managerial Accounting (CMA) test with the highest score for the spring test cycle. In that effort, his score topped the scores of over 4,000 participants worldwide.
