School Record Highlights Meet

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The Panthers Track and Field squad made their second appearance of the season in Jacksonville, IL where they competed in the Illinois College Dr. Jim Green Invitational on Saturday, February 6.

The weekend action saw 15 NCCAA qualifying marks, one NCAA DIII qualifier, and a school record.

In the 55m Hurdles senior Edgar Townsend (Kankakee, IL/Kankakee) finished second with a season best, and an NCAA DIII qualifier, of 7.64. Townsend also combined with Brian White (Harvey, IL/Thornton), Lance Ward (Greenville, IL/Greenville) and Rodney Oyler (Macon, IL/Meridian) to set a new school record in the 1600m Sprint Medley Relay. The team knocked a full second off the previous record to set the new mark at 3:37.32.

The triple jump was the event of the day for the Panthers, as they picked up first and fourth place performances from senior Gio Sykes (East St. Louis, IL/East St. Louis) and Jumaane Bey (Apple Valley, CA/Apple Valley). Sykes led the way with a jump of 13.80m (45-03.50) followed by Bey, who went 13.59m (44-07). Sophomore Morr'Quem Hobson (Springfield, IL/Lanphier) placed third in the Long Jump with a season best of 6.67m (21-10.75).

Rodney Oyler (Macon, IL/Meridian) headed up the middle distance events by coming in second overall in the Mile. Oyler's time of 4:29.40 was a season best and nine seconds ahead of freshman Barry Parks (Eldorado, IL/Eldorado) whose 4:38.37 was good enough for fifth. Coree Woltering (Ottowa, IL/Ottowa) was another fifth place finisher for the Panthers as he ran 1:59.54 in the 800m.
