Softball Falls to York in Evangel Tournament

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.-- The GC Softball team lost both games, 14-4 and 9-5, in a double-header against York College in their first day at the Evangel David Fillmore Memorial Tournament.
The team lost the first game 14-4. GC had 8 total hits, with Shannon Elbe, Mattie Fairchild, and Jessica Finke earning RBIs for their team. Elbe recorded 2 RBIs after a double in thefourth inning. Pitchers Jessica Laubecher and Ashley Woodrome split the game for Greenville, with Laubecher facing 21 batters and Woodrome facing 18 batters. Laubecher allowed 9 runs and Woodrome allowed 5.
The Pantherskept it closer in the second game, but could not come back to winand fell9-5. GC;s offense performed better this game, with 4 different players hitting doubles; Fairchild, Andrea Martin, Danielle Helms, and Whitney Newsom. Fairchild had 2 RBIs, Helms recorded 2, and Newsom added one morefor Greenville. Hannah Burger pitched 5 inningsfor GC and Laubecher closed the game on the mound. Burger faced 29 batters andallowed 11 hits. Laubecher did not allow any hits in the final inning, facingjust 3 batters to close the game.
The women continue their play with another game tomorrow in hopes of improving their tournament record.
