Softball tops Oberlin, falls to Rhodes

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The softball team won their first game of the young season on Saturday as they defeated Oberlin 10-5. The Lady Panthers lost in the second game 13-5 to Rhodes.
Greenville got a 4-for-4 performance from Anaya Tobiason against Oberlin, and Byrn McKie and Andrea Martin posted three hits.
Cayla Speaks was the winning pitcher as she gave Greenville seven innings and allowed five runs.
Greenville fell behind 1-0 after one inning, but they added four runs in the bottom of the second. Oberlin tied the game with three runs in the top of the third.
Greenville tacked on their final runs with two in the fourth, three in the fifth, and one in the sixth.
The second game of the day against Rhodes started well as Greenville posted two runs in the first and two in the third innings.
Rhodes answered with four in the bottom of the third. Greenville regained the lead with a run in the top of the fourth, but Rhodes got three in the fifth and ended the game with six in the sixth.
Tiffany Samsoe was 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBI.
Brianna Anderson was the losing pitcher as she permitted 12 runs in 4 1/3 innings.
The Lady Panthers (1-3) host Millikin on March 11.
