Students Excel in Management and Leadership

Greenville College Management students were among the top performers at the Illinois Phi Beta Lambda State Leadership Conference held in Effingham April 9 and 10.

FBLA-PBL is the largest student organization in both the United States and in the world. In the US, each state organizes competitive events at its state leadership conference. Students that place first, second or third in this event may then move on to the national finals, where they compete against the winners of the other 49 states.

This year, Greenville College entered two teams, as well as several individuals. The first team, comprised of Curtis Lisk, Brad Stewart and Matt Gregg, placed first in both Business Decision Making and Management Analysis & Decision Making. The second team, comprised of Jumaane Bey, Sharon Li and Caleb Arb, placed first in Business Ethics, Business Presentation and came in a close second in Small Business Presentation. During individual competition in Economic Analysis & Decision Making Curtis Lisk placed first and Brad Steward came in third. In Financial Analysis & Decision Making, Curtis Lisk again placed first and Andrea Wilson came in second. Sharon Li won the Human Resource Management event and Matt Gregg came in third in International Business.

The Greenville College Phi Beta Lambda chapter has boasted a strong showing at the national finals during its five year tenure. In 2005, Justin Chesnut placed fourth in the nation in Management Analysis & Decision Making, with Mark Schopp placing tenth in Statistical Analysis. In 2006, Justin Chesnut placed seventh in the nation in Management Analysis & Decision Making with Nathan Strange placing tenth in Human Resource Management. In 2008, Amanda Sullivan placed first in Management Analysis & Decision Making, with Laura Myers placing ninth in Human Resource Management. Finally, last year a team of Davis Redman and Sean Murphy placed second in the national Business Decision Making competition.

Greenville College Phi Beta Lambda sponsor Dr. Ivan Filby is very proud of this year's team of students. The national finals take place this year in Nashville in early July and Dr. Filby hopes Greenville College students will continue their success on this national stage.
