Track & Field Battles Elements at Competitive Rose Hulman Twilight Invitational; Squads Take 5th

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. Greenville College track and field traveled to the campus of Rose Hulman Institute of Technology on Friday and posted a pair of strong 5th place team finishes in less than favorable weather conditions.
As a unit GC notched 25 top ten finishes in the meet and four first place efforts.
NCAA Fifth-ranked Wabash won the men's team scoring in ameet featuring 15 teams, with Rose-Hulman second, Washington University third, and GC snagging the fifth spot. Nationally ranked Washington University earned a convincing team title on the women's side.
On the mens side sophomore Josh Kuusisto continued to dominate the hammer throw, notching a top heave of 51.44m to take the crown in the afternoon event. Fellow sophomore Bryant Simpson logged a 4:02.93 in the mens 1500m run to claim the sixth spot in a terrific effort. Continuing on the track, Seniors Coree Woltering and Josh Dees turned in times of 1:56.14 and 1:56.38 in the 800m run to take third and fourth respectively.
For the women Philita Johnson posted an impressive 57:33 in the 400m dash to claim first place and earn her team 10 points.
Track & Field will return to action on Saturday, April 28 as the club travels to Jacksonville, Ill. and competes in the SLIAC championships at Illinois College.
