Track & Field Competes at Louisville Cardinal Twilight Classic

LOUISVILLE, KY. Both the mens and womens track and field squads headed south to Louisville University to take part in the Cardinal Twilight Classic on Saturday. Freshman Bruce Gray was the Black & Oranges lone winner on the day.
Gray blazed to gold in the 100m dash by way of a 10.69 mark as he crossed the timeline. Gray also ran the second leg of the second place GC 4x100m squad comprised of Anthony Ambers, Josh Garcia, and Brian White. The foursome is still ranked top ten nationally and showed their stuff with a 42.02 on Saturday.
In mens field sophomore hammer specialist Joss Kuusisto launched a 54.46m toss in the hammer to better his standings on the national list in the mens hammer throw. Junior Jace Sloan notched a strong outing in his event, finishing top five in the Javelin with a 55m heave.
On the womens side both senior Kristen Schutte and sophomore Taylor Brunner exploded in the javelin throw, each claiming a spot in the top ten. Schutte rebounded from last weeks performance with a 39.53m mark that earned her fifth. Brunner, a decathlete by trade, continued to impress as she delivered a 37.14m effort to notch seventh.
In short track action the 4x100m team of Imari Mason, Iyeesha Deberry, Penny Grant, and Philita Johnson finished second to help pace the ladies. The squad turned in a time of 48.16.
No team scores were kept.
Greenville College track and field will get back to work with a string of last chance meets that will start on Tuesday, May 15. North Central (Ill.) will play host to a four-day exhibition that spans from Tuesday Friday. Some members of the club head to Augustana (Ill.) on Friday for the Midwest Qualifier. Though the team will be bouncing around, all will have their sights set on the NCAA DIII National Championships that will take part in Los Angeles, Calif. on Thursday, May 24 Saturday, May 26.
