Women Claim Fifth at NCCAA’s; Grant Leaps to Multiple Titles

CEDARVILLE, Ohio Senior Penny Grant launched herself to National Champion status in both the Long jump and Triple jump as she helped the women nab fifth place at Saturdays NCCAA National Championships.
Grant turned in one of the most impressive performances in GC history with her winning efforts of 5.85m in the LJ and her 11.36m mark in the TJ. Not only did the senior blow away Saturdays competition in the pits, but Grant also raced out to the fastest preliminary time in the 55m (7.27) before finishing fourth in the 55m finals with a closing time of 7.35.
Following Grants lead, teammate and senior Philita Johnson burned a 58.84 in the 400m race to claim silver and 8 total team points.
Senior Kristen Schutte led the GC notables in the field, lobbing a 15.21m in the womens weight throw to earn second place. Sophomore Maggie McMurtrey finished close behind with a toss of 15.00m and finished in the fourth slot.
Host Cedarville earned the championship with 152 points. Olivet Nazarene was second in the 20-team field with 101 points and Bethel was third with 85. Greenville College finished fifth with 49 total team points.
Greenville College womens indoor track and field will prepare for the March 9-10 NCAA DII Indoor National Championships with a last chance meet on Friday, March 2 at North Central.
