Women Place 4th at Titan Open

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The Greenville College Women's Track & Field team traveled to the Illinois Wesleyan University Titan Open in Bloomington, IL on Saturday, January 30. The Lady Panthers saw an encouraging beginning to their 2010 season. With a limited squad in action, the team garnered 10 National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) National Championship qualifying marks and a fourth place team finish.
The Lady Panthers had two event winners in senior Michelle Sutton (Springport, MI/Jackson) and junior Rochaunda Harris (East St Louis, IL/East St Louis).
Michelle kicked off her season with a big win in the Mile. Running all alone from the start, Michelle paced herself to a 5:22.38, giving her a nine second margin before her closest competitor.
In the Weight Throw, Rochaunda Harris picked up her first win on the season with a toss of 14.75m (48-4.75). The junior also finished fifth in the Shot Put with a season best of 11.11m (36-5.5).
Freshman Tricia Gall added to the team scoring in the Triple Jump. Her jump of 10.17m (33-4.5) was good enough to place third overall. Other top five finishes for the ladies included: Sara Schlink (Washington, IL/Washington) in the 3,000m (11:13.17/fourth), Jaclyn Johnson-Cross (Belleville, IL/Belleville East) in the Weight Throw (13.80m/fourth), and the 4x400m Relay finishing fourth with a time of 4:13.20.
