Women's track and field finishes in top 10 at NCCAA championships

ROME, Ga. - The women's track and field team took the tenth place position at the NCCAA outdoor national championships.

Chelsea Gilles was the NCCAA national champion in the 400 meter dash with a 56.27 preliminary race, followed by a 54.93 second time in the finals to collect 10 points for Greenville's team.

Molly Works attained a 11:38.39 time in the 3000 meter steeplechase to produce a fifth place mark.

Sierah Ruffner cleared 5 feet, 3.75 inches to rank fifth in the high jump.

Rachel Hanna gave Greenville 2.5 points with a successful pole vault attempt of 9-10 to tie for sixth.

Greenville's 4x100 meter relay of Alex Gregory, Jalisa Casey, Janisha Pealer, and Gilles completed their relay in 49.18 seconds for sixth place.

The 4x800 meter relay team that included Sheridan Noll, Lia Kruse, Rachel Renshaw, and Briana Cox were seventh with a time of 10:16.02.

Marideth Tate threw the hammer 137-10 in her seventh place finish.

Sydney Porter earned one point with a score of 3272 in the heptathlon which was good for eighth place.

The Lady Panthers will compete in qualifying meets on Wednesday and Thursday as they attempt to gain positions in the NCAA Division III national championships.
