MARION, Ind. The NCCAA Championships were held Saturday on the campus of Indiana Wesleyan University, and among a field of 18 participating teams the women of Greenville College displayed a strong showing taking sixth.

Greenvilles 55 team points were barely edged by Cedarville Universities 56 point team effort separating the fourth and fifth spot by a single point. On the day Greenville provided 16 lifetime best performances and three NCAA qualifying marks.

Once again leading the women was senior thrower Rochaunda Harris. Harris broke the NCCAA weight throw record with her toss of 574.75 and distanced herself from the runner-up in the event by nearly nine feet. The winner Harris is currently ranked third in the nation, and has her eyes set on anther solid NCAA championship performance.

Also claiming an NCCAA National title was senior Penny Grant. Grants long jump effort of 186 not only won the meet outright, but claimed the second longest attempt in the history of the NCCAA. Grant is currently ranked seventh in NCAA Division III, and like Harris is looking forward to another championship competition.

Rounding out the highlights for the women were Philita Johnson and Tricia Gall. Johnson was second in the 400 meter dash setting a new school record on her way 58:06 finish. With the effort, Johnson is currently ranked 16th in NCAA Division III and her time slots her fourth in the history of the NCCAA. Gall turned in a nice performance as well, jumping 355.75 in the triple jump and placing third.
