GREENVILLE, Ill. - After finishing with a regular season record of 14-6 and a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference mark of 5-3, the Greenville College women's soccer team is expected to finish in the upper third of the conference again as it was chosen third of nine teams in the preseason SLIAC coaches' poll.
The Panthers, who will be led by three returning members of the 2008 all-conference team, finished in a tie for fourth place last season but did not qualify for the conference tournament due to a tiebreaker.
Leading the group of Greenville returnees is Jackie Sievert, a midfielder from St. Charles, Mo. Sievert earned first team SLIAC honors and was recognized as an NCCAA North Central all-region selection.
Also returning to the Lady Panthers are SLIAC honorable mention selections Nikki Ziegemeier and Kaitlin Sexton, both of St. Charles, Mo.
The Panthers placed behind the Principia College women's soccer team who grabbed the No. 1 spot in the poll. Principia, who went undefeated in conference play at 8-0, 19-2 overall, and captured both the regular season and conference tournament titles, received five first place votes in the poll.
Webster University (15-5, 6-2) was second in poll and received four first place votes.
