Women's Track and Field Earns Fourth at Illinois Wesleyan; Mason and Johnson Take Championships

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The women's track and field team competed in the Illinois Wesleyan Titan Open Saturday and ranked fourth of the 11 competing teams. Headlining Greenville's efforts were event champions Imari Mason in the 55-meter hurdles and Philita Johnson in the 200-meter dash.

Mason ran 8.99 seconds in the finals of the hurdles, improving on her 9.33 mark in the preliminaries.

Johnson posted an event winning time of 26.09 seconds, also bettering her time of 26.20 seconds in the preliminaries.

The women accumulated 64.5 points, featuring two first place marks, two second place performances, and two third place honors. There were also two fifth's and two sixth's to go along with one fourth, seventh, and eighth.

Johnson, adding to her already stellar day, was second in the 400-meter dash (58.12 seconds).

Penny Grant posted marks that placed her second in the triple jump (10.56 meters) and third in the 55-meter dash (7.42 seconds).

Taylor Brunner was third in the triple jump (10.30 meters).

The women's track and field team returns to action Saturday at Illinois College.
