ST. LOUIS, Mo. Womens Track & Field headed to Washington Universitys Bushyhead Track Complex on Friday night to open the 2011 outdoor track and field season. GC was led by senior jumper/sprinter Penny Grant who, despite the unfavorable weather conditions, broke the school record in the triple jump with an effort of 36-9.75.

Greenville College joined host Washington University, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, Wheaton College, and Anderson University in the five-team meet.

Though weather conditions included patches of snow, sleet, and rain with fifteen mph winds and temperatures near the freezing point, the women turned in several strong efforts.

Grant, who placed ninth at the NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships, continued her dominance in the triple jump, posting a 36-9.75 jump and claiming first place by over six feet.

Senior Rochaunda Harris, like Grant, placed first in her event, tossing the hammer 45.7 meters to win the competition.

Rounding out the winners for Greenville, Kristin Schutte took first in the Javelin with a throw of 33.04 meters to outdistance the second place qualifier by over 17 feet.

Greenville will next again travel to St. Louis as they compete at Washington Universities Bushyhead Track Complex, as they prepare for the two-day WashU Invitational on April 1 and April 2.
