Women’s Track & Field Competes at NCCAA Outdoor National Championships; Takes 4th

JOLIET, Ill. Greenville College womens track and field finished fourth at the NCCAA Outdoor National Championships this weekend while only competing with 13 ladies. GC scored 85 total team points, while putting together an impressive full team performance.

Junior throws specialist Kristin Schutte spearheaded the ladies efforts in the championships finishing first in the javelin, fifth in the discus, and sixth in the hammer. Schuttes throw of 39.98m (131 2) is a lifetime best effort and an NCAA Division III qualifying mark.

Staying in the throws, senior Rochaunda Harris continued to dominate the 2011 outdoor season, taking first and tossing a NCAA DIII qualifying mark of 50.17m (1647).

Imari Mason also took home gold in the heptathlon, scoring a combined 3931 points in the event, and contributing 10 points to the overall team score.

The event, held at Joliets Memorial Stadium, was hosted by Judson University and spanned Thursday to Saturday.

The womens squad will next gear up for a meet at Louisville University on Friday, May 11, with their sights set on the NCAA DIII National Championships at Ohio Wesleyan on May 26-28.
