Women’s Track & Field: Harris Dominates Rose Hulman Twilight

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. Womens Track & Field finished fourth overall at the Rose Hulman Institute of Technologys annual Twilight Meet on Friday, competing against a field of 11 teams. Senior Rochaunda Harris turned in one of her best performances of the season winning both the hammer throw and shot put.
Harris, the East St. Louis, Ill. product, shattered the Cook Stadium Fieldhouse hammer record of 1566 set last year by former GC teammate Jaclyn Johnson-Cross. Her effort of 1612 won the event by nearly 30 feet and was a NCAA Division III provisional mark. Harris also claimed the top spot in the shot put with a heave of 366.5 to lead the women with 20 individual points on the day.
Kristen Schutte continued to provide consistent contribution on Friday night, finishing second in the discus (1139), third in the hammer (1324), and third in the javelin (1089) to add an additional 20 points to the womens total.
In the sprints senior Penny Grant led the women with a 100m first place finish, posting a finals time of 12.97. Grant also claimed the fifth spot in the finals of the womens 200m dash, finishing with a 27.45.
Michelle Sutton rounded out Fridays notables with her second place finish in the 3000m run. Sutton crossed the line in a time of 10:08.71 and distanced herself from the third place finisher by nearly 26 seconds.
Womens Track & Field will next gear up for a big week, first traveling to campus of Illinois College on Tuesday, April 19 to take part in the IC Mid Week Quad, and then recovering for four days before competing in the SIUE Twilight Meet on Saturday, April, 30.
