Worship Arts Conference
Published: April 13, 2021
On November 3rd and 4th, Greenville College welcomed high school aged students to a Worship Arts Conference. In total, 23 students attended the two day event, which was hosted by the Greenville College Contemporary Christian Music Department. Students arrived on campus Thursday evening in time to observe and participate in worship at our weekly, student-led, Vespers service.
Students were also given the opportunity to tour and view all of Greenville College's music facilities and hear more information about the programs we offer here at the college. Perhaps the highlight of the conference, were the individual sessions that each student participated in. Professor Gary Erickson offered a session on the "Foundations for Leading Worship", where students were given tips on leading worship effectively, information on how to build song sets and how to build a worship team. Other workshops, which were taught by current students and Greenville College alumni, involved specific training in guitar, piano, bass guitar, voice, percussion and sound reinforcement. Students were given feedback and a chance to ask any questions they might have about leading worship.
Plans are already in the works for a follow-up conference this spring. Greenville College Tour Manager, Nathanael Kotras, mentioned that "the conference was a big success and we are eager to invite more students back to campus next semester."
