Professor Jane Bell speaks to Panther Scholars about servant leadership

Greenville University Business Professor Jane Bell challenged Panther Scholar recipients to focus on serving others at the group’s first meeting of the new academic year. About 200 students met recently for a meal and a program in LaDue Auditorium.
Bell asserted that Jesus Christ was the supreme example of a servant leader – lowering himself to serve his disciples, even to the point of washing their feet.
“Jesus saw their need, was willing to humble himself to serve them, and he did it all in a spirit of love,” she said. “But why should we serve? What should be our motive? We should do it because Christ first loved us. Therefore, when we serve it’s an act of worship to God.”
Panther Scholarships are available to service-oriented individuals who have demonstrated determination and character as they’ve pursued their academic goals. The meeting was organized and led by Phil Davis and C.J. Falls.
After the meeting, Bell said that the Panther Scholars gathering was unique because it brought together people from several groups on campus. “Many times, students stay with people in their own sport group, major, or club. It’s encouraging to see a group that includes students from all aspects of the University.”
