The Factory Theatre: A Reprise
Published: December 14, 2022
Theatre is many things to many people, but to Greenville University’s Factory Theatre Production Manager Gret Tindall, it is a bridge.
“It doesn’t matter your age, gender, or socio-economic status,” Tindall says, “there is a place for everyone in the theatre. Some of the most unlikely friendships are made because people met while in a show.”
Tindall is GU’s Student Success Team Manager, where she helps students who are struggling in classes receive the assistance they need. Like so many GU employees, she said “yes” to wearing an additional hat to relaunch the Factory Theatre after COVID. She saw it as an opportunity to positively impact students and the community.
Tindall has a background in community theatre, which includes productions with the Little Theatre Players in Centralia, Illinois, the Sikeston Little Theatre in Sikeston, Missouri, and the Salem Community Theatre and Cultural Center in Salem, Illinois, where she also directed, produced, and promoted several shows.
Her hope for the Factory Theatre is to provide a place where students who participated in high school or community theatre will continue performing throughout their university careers. She wants the students who participate in GU’s Factory Theatre to create lifelong memories and friendships.
Tindall, along with GU music professor Grace Denton serving as the music director, worked to kick off the Factory Theatre season with A Very GU Christmas—A Christmas Revue! on Saturday, December 10th. Tindall says the show had a great turn out, with 115 people attending.
“The audience really seemed to enjoy the show and gave the performers so much appreciation. I would say that it was a great start to this new chapter for the Factory Theatre!”
The revue featured a narrator, Aidan Humason, seeking to find the meaning of Christmas. Through a series of Christmas activities such an ugly Christmas sweater party and others filled with Christmas music, our narrator discovers what Christmas really is about.
A Very GU Christmas—A Christmas Revue! featured GU students Camila Aristy, Grace Carrington, Erin Elliott, Meghan Garmon, Aidan Humason, Rachel Koebbe, Moriah Marquis, Katie Peppler, Friedrich Peters, Charis Reivitt, and Nate Wirsing. The cast was assisted by a dozen or more students working as backstage and front of house crew.
Plans are underway for a spring 2023 show to be announced soon.
