Guest Speaker Paul Cayo kick starts Engineering Week

The Greenville University Engineering Department welcomed Paul Cayo—a local engineer at Carlisle Construction Materials—as a guest speaker for the start of National Engineers Week!
As a freshman at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE), he declared his major as manufacturing engineering because it promised the most hands-on experience. After that, he realized that he only needed two more classes to get industrial engineering as a second degree. Therefore, in 2011, he graduated with two engineering degrees and went into two master's degrees afterward.
“The key to success in engineering is that students learn constantly, be curious, and actively seek new knowledge and application outside of the classroom,” Paul advised.
Paul Cayo shared extremely valuable information for engineering students and inspired them to continue their education. During his talk, he shared his experiences working in the construction industry and emphasized the importance of safety. He ensured that all construction projects he has been a part of were completely safe with no accidents. In addition to his insights on safety, Paul highlighted that most engineering curriculums are designed to teach students how to learn.
Speaking on Christian character at work, Paul quoted Colossians 3:23-4: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward.” He shared his thoughts: “Work harder. I’m working for God, I’m doing my best, I’m doing honest work; I’m not leaving anything on the table. If I’m working on something, it should be done excellently for our Lord.”
His talk was both inspiring and informative which encourages students to constantly learn and become experts in their engineering field.
