The Greenville University Board of Trustees recently welcomed the return of a board member to the group.

Major K. Kendall (“KK”) Mathews is known for his passionate spirit and his love for helping people. He has been a Salvation Army officer since 1991 and began his service as a corps officer (pastor) ministering to the holistic needs of people from poverty-stricken backgrounds in Detroit and Michigan. He served in administrative posts in the Eastern Michigan Division, Metro Detroit, and Missouri and was Executive Director of the Harbor Light Center in Indianapolis.

Major KK and his late wife, Major Katrina Mathews, also served as administrators of Adult Rehabilitation Centers in St. Louis, Detroit, and Chicago. In those ARC appointments, the Mathews family discovered Special Heart Ministry for beneficiaries struggling with addiction.

He and Major Katrina served as senior KROC officers at the Chicago Kroc Corps Community Center. They have five children, and prayer is also at the center of their ministry.

Major KK attended The Salvation Army’s International College for Officers in London, England, in 2016 and earned a certificate in Executive Leadership through the Arrow Leadership Program in 2021. He currently serves as Associate Chicago Area Commander, overseeing 17 Salvation Army units and representing the organization on many professional and community fronts.

Additionally, he has written articles for The Officer, The War Cry Magazine, and is the author of “In Service to Others: A 30-Day Prayer Journal.” He is currently working on another manuscript about his heaven-bound wife, Katrina, titled The Transition: Experiencing Hope and Life After Death.
